Students get hands-on experience in subject specific tasters!

Pupils participating in a Public Services taster
What’s the best way to see first-hand if the course and college is right for you?

We can offer individual tours for pupils, parents and/or schools careers staff by request. Looking around the college during term time can show you just what the environment and atmosphere is like and you can see our facilities in use.

For schools staff we offer a wide range of tasters for school groups. We can offer tasters in all subject areas. Recent taster subjects have included:
Photography, Graphics, Printmaking, Ceramics, Music Technology, Dance, Drama, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, Law, Philosophy, Sociology, Construction, Engineering, Childcare, Public Services, Sports Psychology, Basketball, Boxercise, Hairdressing.

Why not use a current topic from your schools GCSE curriculum or BTEC Certificate module to be incorporated into the taster?  The work produced can be kept by the school.

Academy Manager ‘Talks Sport’

The College’s Academy of Sport Manager has had a lot to smile about this year following numerous national sporting event successes and is delivering a number of Academy of Sport presentations in local schools to inform pupils about the excellent sporting opportunities available at NULC.

Trevor Humphreys, Academy of Sport Manager said: “Going in to talk to pupils whilst they are still at school allows them to prepare for their transition to college and gets them motivated about the sporting opportunities available to them at NULC.”

Trevor hopes the momentum created by the Olympics can carry forward and inspire the next generation of sporting stars in the local area. The Academy of Sport launched in 2009 and has gone on to achieve national success, most recently being awarded West Midlands College of the Year by the British Colleges of Sport.

The Academy of Sport offers all students at NULC the chance to achieve their full potential in sport whilst studying for their chosen careers. Students can join one of the Sports Academies and compete in the British Colleges Sport leagues and students can gain coaching qualifications in the Coach Education Programme or if students compete at county level or above join the Elite Sports performance Programme (ESPP)

For more information about the Academy of Sport visit www.nulc.ac.uk/sport.  Pupils at school can become a Junior Member of the Academy of Sport. They will receive regular newsletters and invitations to take part in Academy taster sessions and coaching days.
