Madeley students enjoy a real ‘taste’ of France

On 11 July 2012, 20 Madeley High School students participated in a unique French taster day at Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC).

The visit was aimed at Yr 10 students currently studying GCSE French in school.  NULC lecturer MichaĆ«l Lacoult ran the session with some of his current college students with the aim of broadening their knowledge of French culture as well as teaching them new vocabulary.

The visit was split in to three sessions with vocabulary builder games, thinking challenges and a final ‘Musique’ quiz. Students were shown on a map all the different French speaking countries around the world with many students unaware that French was spoken so far around the world.

As part of the visit Michael prepared a typical French buffet including specialist cheeses, cured meats and regional bread batons.

Madeley High School French teacher Lia Slight commented: "The students were well motivated to take part and used more French than they did in school."

Year 10 pupil Louisa Maloney said: "It has improved my knowledge of French and what countries speak it and it is nice getting taught by someone from France."

Erin Clark another Year 10 student commented: "The activities were very fun, I learnt a lot about the media in France."
