10 out of 10 for maths star students

On Thursday 27 June pupils from eight local high schools went head-to-head in an innovative new maths event at Newcastle-under-LymeCollege (NULC).

 Pupils from Year 7 up to Year 10 competed in both team and individual rounds with the aim of becoming Maths Jam Champions 2012.

The annual event run by NULC maths lecturer Andrew Snape aims to inspire young maths students to take their interest further with specially designed quiz questions.

The event which saw over 80 students attend was a great success with Clayton Hall Business and Language College winning the illustrious trophy by a single point! Iain Findlay, Head of Maths at Clayton Hall Business and Language College, was delighted with the trophy and vowed to retain the award next year.

Schools that participated;
  • Clayton Hall Business and Language College: Iain Findlay
  • St Thomas Boughey: Tom Wilkinson
  • NCHS: Judith Burr
  • Haywood Engineering College: Sam Bollan
  • Trentham High School: Elisabeth Ball
  • Wolstanton High School: Garry Smith
