Madeley High Box Clever at NULC

On Monday 25 June, 15 Year 9 pupils from Madeley High School took part in a Sport and Construction Taster and Tour at Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC).

They started the day with a tour of the college’s state of the art facilities followed by a talk on the wide range of sporting opportunities offered in the College’s Academy of Sport delivered by Academy of Sport Manager, Trevor Humphreys.

Madeley’s Head of Year 9 Mr L Royall commented ‘The Academy of Sport is amazing!’

The pupils then enjoyed a demanding one hour Boxercise session with professional boxer and former NULC student Nathan Russo.

The pupils had lunch in the college’s Food Hall before being taken on a tour of the Construction and Engineering facilities in the college's £6 million Skills and Technology Centre. 

A short talk was delivered by lecturers from Paintingand Decorating, Bricklaying, Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical Installation andHorticulture as pupils visited each area. A short demonstration was given on the college’s newly acquired ‘Virtual Welder’ which can simulate a variety of different work environments.

Year 9 pupil Jack Sanders said ‘It made me more open to the jobs I could do’.  Pupil Tommy Locklin said ‘ I liked the boxercise and all the information we were given’.
